| Parting Time once again for Coach Bo Perasol on his 2 Prized Players |
Powerade prized forward Marcio Lassiter landed at Petron Blaze in the end.
Petron didn’t stop pursuing Lassiter and eventually netted the versatile Fil-Am player in
sweetening the pot it offered to Powerade in exchange.
PBA commissioner Chito Salud, on Friday, gave his nod on a five-player transaction that also
involved Tiger back-up guard Celino Cruz and Petron players Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Rey Guevarra and
Lordy Tugade.
“The terms of the revised trade are hereby approved. There is acceptable parity in the cumulative
skills, value, use and potential the players from each side of the trade will bring to their
respective new teams,” said Salud in a statement.
The original trade proposal that was disapproved by the PBA commissioner involved only Lassiter for
Guevarra and Noy Baclao.
That time, Lassiter has proved to be a gem.
On the other hand, Baclao was then nursing an injury
while Guevarra hardly got playing minutes from coach Ato Agustin.
Lassiter, a former Smart Gilas picked by Powerade at No. 4 overall in the most recent draft, formed
part of the Powerade “Big Three” with Gary David and Jvee Casio, leading the Tigers to a
second-place finish in the Philippine Cup. The 6-foot-2 forward sizzled through in the Commissioner’s Cup, emerging as among the contenders
for the Best Player of the Conference award.
The Powerade management went through with the deal despite pronouncement by coach Bo Perasol that he didn’t want Lassiter to be dealt away. “We are very happy with this trade. We are getting a much-needed big man in Rabeh Al-Hussaini and getting two proven shooters and scorers in Guevarra and Tugade,” said Powerade top official Ronnie Asuncion as quoted by interaksyon.com. Al-Hussaini, the 2011 Rookie of the Year awardee, has just returned from an ACL injury. Guevarra, the 2010 PBA Draft third pick, has yet to get his potential while Tugade, at 34, is fighting to prolong his playing career.
