Gary David providing the clutch baskets for Tigers |
Another big game by Mr. Pure Energy Gary David keyed the Powerade Tigers 104-99 win in overtime over the Elasto Painters Sunday. The Powerade scoring machine delivered a fifth consecutive 30-point performance as the Tigers surged
ahead, 2-1, in their side of the best-of-seven semifinals.

A good weekend crowd at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum stood as witness as David torched the Elasto
Painters with 31 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter and in the extension play.
David and company go for the pivotal 3-1 series lead in Game Four also at the Big Dome Tuesday.
“Sayang ang chance na ito. Pipilitin namin makuha,” said David.
“Gary is our main man and we’ll stick with him no matter what. He delivered at crunch time and
our defense held up,” said Powerade coach Bo Perasol.
“It’s a nice game, a well-played game, except that we missed too many three-point shots
especially when they played the zone. We needed those shots,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
“We’re disappointed we lost, but we’re not too disappointed we lost a close game despite
missing our three-point shots,” Guiao added.
The Tigers faced a precarious situation, 89-95, entering the homestretch but David himself brought
the team back in the fight, forcing overtime at 97-all with three charities in the last 10 seconds
of play.
Both teams had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation but blew it.
Beau Belga misfired an attempt from atop the key while Doug Kramer missed a shot from underneath.
Gabe Norwood made the first basket in overtime but the Elasto Painters failed to buy a basket again.
David, on the other hand, sustained his firepower in OT, capping his giant effort with a brilliant
basket off Norwood that gave Powerade a 103-99 cushion with time down to 31.4 seconds.
The Tigers held the Elasto Painters to three free throws in the last 2:24 of regulation and to a
single field goal – that of Norwood – in the extension play.
“Gary helped even on defense. There was a time I was thinking on resting Gary for a defensive sub.
But then I decided ‘kaw na rin Gary.’ And he did the job,” said Perasol.
The former Lyceum standout knocked in five triples, six twinners and four charities as he put in a
30-point showing for the fifth time in as many games in the post-elim plays.
The Tigers engaged the Elasto Painters in a fierce battle with Marcio Lassiter, Sean Anthony, Doug
Kramer, Jvee casio and Joshua Vanlandingham giving David the needed support.
Paul Lee paced Rain or Shine with 19 points while Jervy Cruz had his huge share with a career-best
17 points and 13 rebounds. (Source: PBA.Ph)
