Shock but Hopeful!

Just like the old days......

These past few days, people are talking about the news which Shock the world of Philippine basketball. It is the departure of Tim Cone as mentor of Alaska Team. I consider him as the mind of the entire team which brought 13 championships for the past 22 years of stay in the PBA. Coach Tim sets many coaching record in PBA and that should serve as a barometer for other coaches if they want to be considered as a legend. When you say Alaska, Tim Cone is the name to remember. Many has been said about his decision to leave the team but for me it is a very hard and brave decision for his part. Willing to leave his comfort zone proves to be what we wants us to impart in life. It's sad for the Alaska fans but for a fan like me, I am optimistic. Why? because the PBA will benefit on this development. The twist of event may give more life for the upcoming seasons and games. People wants change. That is why NBA is very interesting game to watch. You will never know what to expect. Players being traded from one team to another gives fan a different feeling of what it would be if this player went on playing in my favorite team. Even coaching changes can make the faith of the team turn around instantly. We should be happy for Tim and for what will be his coming decision whether to accept offers from other team or become an spectator just like us. I like how he Loves the game and become his Passion. I'm Happy and also Excited for PBA!

Your skills are good, but we need HEIGHT!!!!

This is what most of the teams now in the PBA are looking for. With many years that I am watching and following the PBA. Big Men only last for very short time in the league. One of the contributing factor is the physicality of the the game and some wear n tear. If you are not that well conditioned entering the Pro League, sooner or later your skills and agility will vanish like a candle in the wind. Some of them are the Seigle brothers, even though Danny is still playing, the hops now looks like sardines can. I remember watching the exhibition game of the NBA Player selection vs the PBA selection. Mark Clements Telan, where are you now? EJ Feihl with half twin tower Marlou Aquino, retiring? Some of the remaining Tall players have significantly reduce their playing time mainly because of some injuries and lack of step to keep up with the young players. To mention a few are, Dennis Espino, Asi Taulava, Nick Pennisi, Rommel Adducul etc.
To top it all, we need new breed of players tall enough to withstand the Powerhouse teams in Asia such as Iran, Korea, Japan, Qatar, China and many more. We should find these players with foreign breed to enhance the talent more and develop them to become the new face of Philippine Basketball. With due respect to the recently drafted players of the PBA, these is a small failure of which i consider as a major lapse to those who wants to bring back the glory days of the Loyzagas. Adding players such as Sam Eman, Sonny Thoss, Joe Devance and JR Reyes to the Smart Gilas Team accompanying Ranidel De Ocampo and Kelly Williams will greatly increase our chances to move closer to what they are dreaming to reach the Olympic.
